Everyday conflicts in the streets

This map shows the location of events as recorded in the notarial depositions of 1742 and 1750. The descriptions are by witnesses at the notarized secretary of the chief officer. The secretary handled everyday conflicts that caught the attention of the chief officer but had not led to arrests (yet). It contains a broad range of snapshots of daily life of Amsterdam’s inhabitants, who appear as witnesses, perpetrators, victims and bystanders.

The points are the centralized positions of the potential area that was reported. The heat map gives an insight of the everyday conflicts based on the density of observations.
