Female presence in the merchandise world
/The Naamregisters of 1784 (for more information about the source itself please see the mobility map) contains a number of female traders listed in the city of Amsterdam. The abbreviations in the entries (e.g., Wed., Gezust.) points out widows and sometimes women groups who run a business together. By structuring the records, we could extract around 150 females active in the merchandise world. In this visualisation, we explored female presence to decipher their role in 18th century trade and industry. This map does not only points out the location of the female merchants but also draws an overview in the neighbourhood level comparing number of females in each.

Work in progress. The visualisation covers over 2k entries in the Naamregisters of 1784 but yet does not extend to the section devoted to the Jewish merchants.
